Mail Question

I got something in my mailbox that's not addressed to me (wrong address, not just the wrong name). Can I put it back in outgoing mail and assume they'll get it right the second time, or has it been scanned or something and that won't work? Should I write "delivered to wrong address" on it or something? It's handwritten so probably something the recipient actually wants.

That's what I would do. Or, if you want to be really nice you could take it directly to the post office.

I put a brightly colored post-it on it that says “wrong address.” That way they can just remove the stickie and redeliver.

I take wrong mail directly to the post office and hand it to a clerk. I’ve gotten someone else’s mail with their name and address...dropped it in a mailbox and it came right back to me. So now I go in directly. This summer just in one week I received 2 packages that clearly were not mine nor my address. Walked those into the P.O. and told them they needed to bring this to the carrier’s attention or whoever sorts packages. I am in city limits but we are considered a rural route because our mailboxes are out by the street. My mail often gets delivered to my neighbor’s house and I also get my neighbor’s mail. But those packages.....not even the right street.

I get the wrong mail often! God knows what happens to mine. Very inadequate mail delivery here. Now, we get almost everything online. USPO blew it! We rarely mail anything...

If it is addressed

to someone on my street, I just put it in their box when I drive by. (this happens often, we have mailboxes on the street)
If it is someone not close by I put a post it on it that states-wrong address.

At my other home, I would get packages left on my step that did not belong to me. I did not know if they were from UPS or another delivery service. They were always for a residence with the same number as my house and the same first word of my address but the second name was different. Like 12 North Ridge Road and North Central Road. I know where it was. I brought it to the address because the residence was also a vet's office and I know it was probably a delivery of medicine. He was so appreciative.

Sometimes I am just annoyed with the postal service.

Thanks everyone. I put it back in outgoing mail with the address circled and "delivered to wrong address" written on it. With my after school tutoring, I'm not available to go to the post office- I'm at work during all of their open hours. Very frustrating last year when they messed up my packages .
