Sharing Time during Morning Meeting
Old 01-25-2009, 12:07 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Last year, sharing time was the highlight of morning meeting, children all signed up, and grew in the area of sharing many topics.

My experience this year is not that way.
On Monday we are all successful at sharing the high point and low points of our weekend. Yet the rest of the week is a dud.

For the month of December, they signed up and were to share either news, something found in nature, or something they made with their hands. All though this was more successful, it needs work.

I would love any suggestions!

Ideas for sharing

I teach 6th grade, and my students love to share. I have 3 ideas that may help.
1. Keep track of who has shared, so that everyone gets the opportunity to share.
2. Give students a topic to share about that relates to current events or an academic topic.
3. Sometimes we will take sharing time to share writing or poetry

I hope these ideas help!

Here are some of the themes I use:
- joke or a riddle
- poem
- photograph
- magic trick
- new vocabulary word...student gives 3 definitions, one true and the
other two made up...we vote on the real one and then try to use the
new word that day
- magazine or newspaper article of interest
- an award or something you are proud of achieving
- favorite childhood toy
