Now that we are on the home stretch. For me the end will be on 6/30, late. What state do you teach in, what grade, and how many students did you start with and ended up with?

I teach 2nd grade at a charter school in Southern Ca., started with 20 and ended with 15 students.

We end on May 27... I started out with 28 wonderful students and I am ending with the same exact group. One of my collegues has had kids move in/out of her classroom... so she has the lower number. I shouldn't get anymore these last days. *Hopefully*

We have to go back the first week in August - the hottest and most humid part of our summer and the air conditioning does little the first few weeks to cool the building.

Third grade Texas teacher here. Started with 22 students, we had to hire another teacher in December b/c our numbers got too high, so I dropped down to 17 and I am ending with 16! Our last day is June 4th.

I am in British Columbia...started with 19, lost one, gained one, and then gained a second one so I will end with 20 on June 28th. One of the most well behaved and nice groups I have ever taught...makes me wonder what I am in for next year!! lol

Last day for students is May 28 (half-day!), teachers June 3. I teach fourth grade. Started with 24 students, ending with 25. Lost one, got two new ones. One student left and came back. I am thrilled with their test scores....

I'm in a small private school in AR. We get out May 28, a field trip to a state park! I think the ps in AR gets out on the 28th, if they don't have to make up days. I know some who have to make up a week because of flooding.
I started with 5 1st graders and 3 2nd graders. I gained a 1st grader in Oct.

I'm in southern California and I have a 2/3 combo. Started with 24 and ended with 24, although not the same ones. Our last kid day is June 3 and my last day is June 4th. One of the worst years I have had in my 20 years. I feel like counting hours instead of days!

Last day was supposed to be June 24, but now thanks to furlough days, it will be the 18th. I teach 6th grade in So Cal with 32 for homeroom, 79 in the two main sections, and rotated through 120 for the elective(40 every 10 weeks).

Last day is June 24th. We made up a "teacher workday" during the big snow storms, so they said that could count instead of our end of the year work day...obviously the powers that be don't realize how much is required before we leave for the summer. 28 school days left (with 3 of those being state testing days). I have 10 days left with my fabulous student teacher.

I started the year with an original class list of 24.
One no-show--23
New kid #1 in Sept--24
New kid #2 in Sept--25
one of my original 24 left in Oct -- 24
new kid #2 moved away in December -- 23
new kid #3 in December -- 24
new kid #4 in Jan - 25
new kid #4 two days later in Jan - 26
one of my original 24 moved in may - 25
new kid #5 in march - 26.

I don't know of any more that are moving away...so I think I'll end the year with these 26...maybe more will move in. We have four classes in our grade level and have had this many changes in ALL four classes.

I teach 2nd. School ends June eleventh. I started the year with 18, one was added near Winter Break and it's been 19 ever since. Also, I taught 7 kids in this class last year in first, so I'm ready to let someone else have them!

I'm in Michigan. Our last day is June 18th. I started with 29 on my roster. One never showed until December 18th. That gave me 30. I had one move back to the Middle East, that gave me 29. I had one move back to Chicago. That gave me 28. I got one new one. That gave me 29. I got one more new one that gave me 30. I had one leave that put me back at 29. I got one more new one, that put me back and 30. I have one more leaving which will put me back to 29. So overall it looks like I began with 29 and I will end with 29 but there have been a lot of changes.

I'm in Phoenix, AZ and I have a smaller class because I am the structured English immersion teacher for 5th grade at my school. The last day of school is June 4. I started with 24 and am ending with 19. It would have been 20, but I had a student leave because his grandfather is dying in Mexico, so his family had to pull him out.

The end is coming soon. Students finish up this Friday, May 21. I teach third grade and started off the year with 19 students. I ended up with 20 but my new student came pretty early in the year. It's been a good year but I am ready for a break.

in Oregon. Last day is June 18th (we begin Sept. 4).
Started with 32 students....some turnover but will end with 32. There's still time and hope, though, that I can end with 33 or 34 students, right?

I've never had less than 29 students (had 29 students for 3 months a few years ago).

ends on June 10 ( for kiddos), June 11 for teachers. I started with 22, 8 2nd graders and 12 first graders. I still have the same 20. A great group of kids but I am still ready for a break. I just want to sleep past 5 am and decide when I eat lunch... I am also SOOO tired of making a lunch every day. I cannot face another turkey sandwich for a while!!

Good to see some So Cal posters. I'm as far So Cal as you can go. I have 15 more school days to go, 14 with kids.

I started my first grade this school year with 19 students, had 21 in November, went back down to 20 after Christmas, and am now at 16. Of those 16, 6 came in during the school year, anywhere between October and April. And I may be getting a new student tomorrow .
Can't wait for this year to finish. This was the most challenging class ever.

Students last day is May 26 ours is 27.
My youngest and oldest students have THREE field trips planned (each)!
I started with 42 ESL now 52
I started with 4 IEP and now 15 (I identified 11).

2nd/3rd grade split here in urban Michigan.
The kids' last day is June 17th -- we finish June 18th.
I started with 22 2nd graders -- then 'reorganized' to a 2nd/3rd in October with a total of 30.
I had 29 for most of the year, though not the same 29.
Overall, I think I lost about 9 and gained about 6 which has me finishing with 27. (The last one transferred into my room just last week.)

Oh, make that 28 if we transfer one in this week. It's not likely, but a possibility we discussed.

Kids out on May 20th. Teachers out May 21. Started with 13 ended with 13. One moved out and came back so ended with the same students. Enjoy the summer all.

I teach first grade in Minnesota. Started with 23, continued adding until I had 27 in January. Still have 27. Last day of school is June 11. Work day June 14.

I teach 5th grade and started with 34 students.. lost 3.. gained 4 and am ending the year with 35! It's been a rough years especially since I ended last year with 23 kiddos. But I've made it and so have my students.

6th grade, self-contained. I teach on a military base so we have kids coming and going all year. Started with 22 - had 6 leave and got 4 new ones, for a final count of 20. We are done on May 26th because we start the first week of August. No a/c, it is hot!

I teach 2nd grade self contained gifted.
Started with 17 and ending with the same.
Was a great year with great kids. I'm leaving the classroom and becoming a gifted intervention specialist and looking forward to a change.
Students last day is June 3rd and ours in the 4th.
Happy Summer everyone!

You have air conditioning in the classroom? How wonderful. You mentioned what I was thinking. Your start date. As I'm reading these posts I am wondering when everyone began?

Began September 2nd with 29 on my roster. 26 showed up. Students moved and new students came.

Will be ending June 30th with 21 students, seven major behavior problems, 4 that were transfer students in December. Ironically they traded places with behavior students that left. (Why me? I keep asking myself. Is it me or is it today's students?) I hope I don't get anyone else before this year ends. Am expecting more next year due to financial cuts. Have had more students in past years, but am supposed to only have 21 according to our contract.

Lower grade and the only adult in the classroom. Thankfully I have great teachers on my floor to talk to when one of my behavior children are making me crazy.

Teach on the East Coast, with no air conditioning, and where it is HOT in June. Fans do only so much!

Reason: additional thoughts

It is amazing to see so many replies to my post. It's nice to see the info though. I started the day after Labor Day in September and again my last day with kids is 6/25, but I have to stay on until 6/30 doing who knows what?

Both students and teachers end June 30th. Have snow days to make up. Go back September 1st. Had 17 kids all year but lost 3 and gained three. Two of the new ones went to a new charter school in the district and came back.

Our last day was Friday 5/21, the kids come back 8/5. I teach kindergarten at a public school in the suburbs of Atlanta, started with 19 and ended with 19 students. Nobody came and nobody left! =)

I teach 2nd grade in NC. I started with 20. Gained 3 from a split class. I moved in April. I just went on a trip to India. Now I have 21. Last day of school for kiddos is June 10th. Our last day is the 14th.

I teach at a public school in Virginia. We end on June 11th (1 day late for kids... teachers go to June 17th to make up snow). Kindergarten is always a fun grade to teach because parents sometimes don't "know" to register their kids, accidently try to register in the wrong county, etc. So my numbers went like this for the first two weeks: 16,19,17,16,17, .... we are ending with 18.
