End of Year Assessments

I did a quick search and didn't find anything, but forgive me if I missed a thread....

I teach first grade and I'm looking for some type of end of year assessment, for both math and reading, that I can assign in my Google Classroom, to get a sense of what my kids can do.

TIA for any and all ideas!

I wouldn’t unless you have to. The data will be dirty because you don’t know which kids are doing it themselves and which kids are getting help from parents. I wouldn’t waste my time because you literally cannot do anything with it.

I have a student who is getting detailed assistance from the parent during distance learning. Essays are definitely not the child's. The child has NEVER written anything that follows structure, and suddenly, the essays are well-structured with good spelling and punctuation. They're also turned in by email as Word documents because "we can't figure out how to upload them to google Classroom." Interesting...we've been using Google Docs on student iPads all year.

There is no point in trying to do assessments that you can't control. Our district cancelled the usual end-of-year assessment in both iReady and Achieve 3000.

We are using our moy assessments to keep it honest. We also didn’t teach new material since March 10.

Thank you for your feedback. I tend to agree with you. I don't mind that the kids are getting help for assignments because I don't think they could have navigated GC on their own, but you're right that I won't be able to tell what they can do independently.

I have "reads on grade level" (among many other categories of course) on my report card, and I just have no idea how to mark that. I may just end up putting N/A.

Could you use Moby Max or another online program to do some testing if you need it? Or use something on Readworks.org?

I have RAZKids, Lalilo, and Epic. All have components where I can assign kids to read leveled books. But I still think they might either get help or simply not do it. I've heard from colleagues who were trying to assess 1:1 during live meets and could hear the parents off-screen whispering prompts.

I'm just going to let it slide.
