The money that districts get for sped kids - does that go back into yalls sped program? Like purchasing resources, training, etc.

I'm honestly not sure if this is just a state issue or a federal one, but where I am sped is drastically underfunded. They have a set amount that is promised per student but we don't actually get anywhere near that. I believe my sped director said it was actually funded at something absurd like 18%. I could be wrong, but I believe at least part of that is due to IDEA not being funded at the federal level, and then the rest is a state specific issue.

The cost to provide services is significantly more than the money we receive. There is definitely not leftover money for resources or PD, although I'm fortunate that my district does pay for some of that. The money goes towards salaries for sped staff and funding out of district placements which are extremely costly (like 80,000 per year for one kid).
