Do you have to have math certification to teach Title One math? We had a teacher who was doing such a poor job in the classroom, the administration finally pulled her out and made her the Title One math teacher. She has no math credentials, other than the math classes that she had to take to get elementary ed. certified.

Not a Good Idea

As far as I know in our state, there is no special certification you have to have; however, putting a poor teacher in that position isn't a good idea. These students need a teacher who knows her "stuff" and can help bring them up to level. In our district, Title I teachers are carefully chosen and considered specialists. Hope things work out for your school.

In our district the Title I teachers must have their Master's in the area they are teaching.
