I will be getting 6 iPod Touches for my classroom in the next few days (they have arrive, but my principal wants to get cases for them before giving them out). Does anyone use them in their first grade classroom? If so, can you tell me how you use them and what apps would work well for firsties?

I am excited to get them, but I want to maximize their use and I know my Proteacher pals will have a lot of great answers for me!

Yes, I've used iPods w/ K-5 students for a few years now. They are awesome. There are so many uses for them, and lots of apps (many free) that focus on basic skills. The key to using them is to limit the amount of choices the young ones have and to make sure they understand your expectations for their care and use. Here is a classroom site I found last year that has a lot of good ideas about using them in a primary classroom.

The link is for the first blog post. You can click "next" for subsequent posts.
