Options - Help!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hello!
I am a 3rd grade teacher and have suffered from debilitating migraines for the past 7 years. I've had them mostly under control until recently. They have increased and I have missed A LOT of school! I was a resource teacher at a Catholic school last year and have started just my second year of teaching as a public school classroom teacher. It is not fair to my kiddos, to their families, and to my teammates.
I am on new preventatives, but am still missing much school. Since this is SO not fair to anyone involved, my choices are limited. All you veteran teachers out there - will it hurt my career in education to take a huge leave of absence or resign all together until I get my migraines under control?
I am so frustrated and disappointed...
Thanks in advance from the help!

I took a leave of absence this year for medical reasons. It has been fine. For me, taking care of my health was more important. You need to do what's best for you, whatever that may be.

Family Medical Leave Act keeps your position and you get to heal. That could help you.

Not sure if you have looked into Family Medical Leave Act. If not, check it out! You should be fine.
