I have six years until retirement. My husband and I have recently moved into an rv and we travel as much as we can on weekends, holidays and in the summers. BUT.... I want to quit now! Im thinking that surely I can find something to do on the road! How would this affect my retirement? I know that instead of 6 years, it will be 12 before Im eligible for my retirement check. But if I put in 6 more years (29 total) will it really make a difference financially as far as my retirement goes?

You really need to check with your State retirement office to be certain of your retirement salary. If you have additional retirement savings (403B) and no debt it may not really make a difference. It takes a bit of thought to take everything into account.

You very well could make up money each month to equal your current salary but remember your lower level of retirement income will last the rest of your life. That's a big deal.

You need to check with someone in your state/district. If you have a union, they may be able to help you with this. In my state, what you are wanting to do would have a very significant impact on your retirement.

your financial adviser, retirement office, and social security to see if it is feasible to retire now. Make appointments in advance for all of them, especially social security--the walk-in wait is very long. Also remember that health insurance can take a big bite, it would be good to know how retiring now will affect insurance.

There are jobs you can do "on the road." You might want to do some research starting here:

Workamping and on-line ELL tutoring might be especially attractive for you.
