With everything else to wonder about, how many years did you teacher before having your first child? I plan on TTC so that the baby would be due the very end of school (I realize this is unlikely, but one can hope But now I'm wondering how many years you waited before starting your family? We do not have tenure in our district, so that doesn't apply but we do have longer contracts and things of that nature.
I have been teaching for 9 1/2 years and still don't have children. I started teaching right after I turned 22. I was married for 5 years, but we never had children...thank God! My boyfriend and I want to have children soon. He is 15 years older than I am so we better get started :-). I am glad that I waited. All of my friends already have kids in elementary school so I am definitely behind, but I will better knowing that am more financially stable because I waited. Oh...and I started my Master's degree after I taught for 2 1/2 years. It took me two years to obtain my degree.
Taught for 2 years before I met DH. Dated for a year, engaged for a year, and married for 2 1/2 before DS#1 came along....so 6 1/2 years. I was extremely fortunate ( and grateful ) to have 9 years of job-sharing / part-time after that, while he and DS#2 were little. With the districts all facing such tight budgets, though, that has pretty much gone out the window now. They're 8 and 10 now, and though I would love to still be able to be part-time, I've had to go back to full-time this year in order to be employed.
Since I teach high school, I have to be at work at 7:10, but am off the clock ( though never done ) at 3:10. I hate having to drop them off at 6:45 in the morning, but at least I'm able to be home when they get off the bus at 4. That's really important to me. We all really miss our "leisurely" mornings where I got them on the bus at 8:30, and then left for work at 9 and was still able to be home by 4 .... Oh well, all good things must end.
We had our first child before I started teaching. Then we had the second my first year teaching. And now we have a third. I've been running ever since-- and loving every minute of it!!!

Reason: ever not every!
I am about to finish my 2nd year and I am wanting to TTC to have a baby at the end of next year, too. At my district you have a probationary certificate for the first 3 years. Two of the teachers that started with me last year had babies this year.
I was 6 weeks pregnant when I interviewed over the summer for my first teaching job...so I guess my answer has to be 0 then! He was born late February my first year teaching and I returned to work when he was 9 week sold (hard).
Bison.. I'm in the same situation as you. 3 year probationary certificate (basically, 3 one year contracts then you can get longer ones). I too am in my 2nd year, so if I planned it right, I would be due the end of my 3rd year. I don't think that the admin. would disapprove but it still makes me nervous!!! I am confident with my job and have always gotten great reviews/evals but I am a worrier!
Dd was born at the beginning of my 6th year of teaching. Good for you for recognizing it might not happen right away. Life is so short as it is. Good luck!
I got pregnant the end of my first year and he was born midway through my second year. I took my time getting my degree and we had been married over 7 years by then.
I got married in October my first year of teaching at the age of 23. We plan to start trying in the spring of my third year of teaching. We want to have 4 children, so we have to start young (around 26 or 27.) I will be staying home while the kids are too young for grade school. It is sooo worth it though. Family always comes first!
