I just can't get enough of PT! Can any of you third grade teachers help guide me with a class word wall? I have one for K (which obviously won't work) and I don't want to make or purchase anything until I know what to get....should I go with Third grade dolch words or Fry's list....any suggestions? Thanks!

I did commonly misspelled words in white, math words in yellow and reading words in red. I got the math and reading words from the CCSS list. The misspelled words I took from the 300 sight words and added a few as we went.

I have an active word wall the kids write on. As we use a vocab word a student posts it. I have a side white board which makes it easier but the kids can write the words on note cards and post it where ever your word wall is. The kids love it because ts their word wall. This also keeps them engaged to listen for new words so they can be the one to post it. I also put misspelled words up as they come up.

I use large bulletin board letters for our word wall, leaving enough space for about 6 file cards for each letter. Our words are mainly grade 3 dolch words but also include frequently misspelled words that I notice in their day to day work. They words are added a few at a time, after we go over them. Once we have quite a few words, we play word wall bingo. Students record 20 words from the word wall and another student calls out words. ( great activity to leave for a substitute)
If a word is on the word wall and it is misspelled in an assignment, I highlight it and the student needs to correct it.
I like the idea of having different coloured words for various subjects!

I don't use HF words like I did when I taught 1st grade. I/We choose "juicy" words from the books we're reading. The students use context clues and dictionaries (if necessary) and the class votes on if the word should be added to our "juicy" wall. So I guess it's more of a vocabulary wall. My students love finding juicy words.
