My district has started new take on mentor/mentee portfolios. As the coordinator, I am suppose to come up with questions (2x a month) for the mentees to respond to. My first one was how did the beginning of your year go...something you positive about and one thing you would like to work on...etc.

I would love if you could help me with some topics for these conversations. These are teachers in their 2nd year in the district. All of them are classroom teachers. Any suggestions? Thanks

Which subject is the hardest for you to teach and why? What concerns or struggles do you still have?

Discuss a classroom management problem you had. Explain what you did to solve it and what you would do it if it happened again.

If possible, this second one would be great to share with all of the new teachers. During the semester we student taught, the education majors student teaching had to submit this a few times during the semester. When we met for one of our night classes, we discussed them and brainstormed more ideas. It was very helpful because some classmates may have had a problem I never had and I could see what else I may have to handle in the classroom and how to go about handling it!

I thought of another one. Give an example of how assessment has guided your instruction. This is a very popular question at interviews and should be something highly effective teachers do!
