Years ago when I taught first grade I used Silverstein, Lanskey, and Peruskey (sp?) poetry to identify nouns and verbs. I would write the poem on theboard leaving out all of the nouns (or verbs) and then we would complete it with our own. Because they were silly poens to begin with, when we would read the original to compare, they often voted that their own was the best. Here is a site with some good poems.
