trouble identifying numbers

I have a 2nd grader in my class with very unique learning styles. So far no one has been able to identify his learning disability. He is having trouble identifying and writing numbers in the teens- he's fine 1-10 and better from the 20's (although not super) - but the teens are a complete stump to him.
Any suggestions?
Thank you all so much.

Learning to write numbers

Having worked with first and second graders in Title I math in the past, I can tell you I had more than my share of students who had the same difficulty you are describing. I found that by using a 100s chart over and over, modeling both reading and writing of the numbers that students began to see the pattern over time. Let's face it, when you say 18 what do you hear first? 8. I think that's why so many students want to write 81 instead of 18, etc. And forget about 11 and 12! Just be patient and keep reinforcing the correct way...it will come - eventually. Good Luck
