I don't have notebook or Smartboard and was wondering if anyone has a word document that they can share for Status of the Class... Thanks!

I use a chart similar to Daily 5 check in sheet.

If you aren't familiar with that then just make a chart with all of your writer's workshop elements at the top...prewriting, drafting, revising, conference etc. and have students check in with you at the beginning of writer's workshop. You would have students names on the left hand side.

Also, I have used a laminated sheet with each writing workshop element and students write their name on the appropriate page at the beginning of writer's workshop. You can erase the names each day or have students cross off their names and start over the next day.
