Since I'm new to Title I, I have a question about how many students to serve. I'm told to serve 45. Well, I used testing data and got my 45. But, 11 of the 45 will be served in both reading and math. Do these 11 count only one time? Do I now need to add another 11 to my roster? I'm very confused at this time. I plan to start seeing my groups on Wed. of next week, and I need this answered as soon as possible. I've already sent notices home with the original roster. If I need to add 11 more, I'll need to get those notices out first thing Monday. Thanks.

I am trying to read into what you said. I think you serve Title I Reading, and you are concerned because someone else is also serving 11 of your reading students for math. The way I understand it, you have done what you were told to do, and that is to serve 45. If you will see them, you are serving them. I don't think that means to add 11 more, just because 11 are being served in math. They don't have to total to 90 separate students, the point is that you have a full caseload.

I always understood the full-time caseload to be between 30 and 60 students, so you are being told to be right in the middle. I think 45 is a good number, as long as your groups can be relatively small and you are serving the students with the most need.

To clarify, I am the only Title I teacher and teach both reading and math. Sorry to be so vague. Sometimes what I write makes sense to only me!

I still think that your list can stay as it is, with those 11 students qualifying for two services, but in each subject you are serving 45 students. Good luck next week!

By the way, that's 45 total students. Not 45 served in reading and 45 served in math. Am I over-thinking this. I just want to do what's right.
