Help me understand focus strategies and the most effective way to teach them to 3rd graders!

I'll tell you what I started doing this year. I've made a file folder for each grade level/story in their reading books. On that file folder I have sectioned off the following sections: vocabulary, phonics, spelling, comprehension/study skills. Then in those sections I write down the skills/strategies I need to teach/use during the week. I hang the file folder on the side of my filing cabinet with my calendar (I don't have bulletin boards in my room).

I had been reading a lot about focus walls and did a search on the internet. I found pictures/explanations. You might want to try that.
