How do you dispose of an old fire extinguisher?

Possibly a stupid question, but what do you mean by 'old?' Is it one that has already been used?
I guess I'm actually wondering if they expire. It never even occurred to me that they would. We've had ours for years, so I may need to buy new ones.

Check for a date. They do loose their charge. Call your city dept. that handles trash collection or drop off station to see about disposing of one. Our town has bi annual days for odd stuff that can't be put in the weekly trash.

You can put it in the regular trash. None of the contents are toxic or harmful to the environment.
