Took my 18 year old son to the playground today.
Sometimes I'm glad he can't talk OR understand the mean things people say.
He is just blissful in his own world.
I push him on the swing, so he can go really high.
(This garners some stares.)
So peaceful until we were surrounded by a trio of 12-year-olds.
This bawdy bunch cursed every other word with the "F" Word being their favorite.
Presumably inspired by having an adult woman (me) there to show off in front of and see if I would say anything.
Me...secretly wishing that my Non-verbal son could curse.
One of them shouted "retard."
GRRR!
One of them sent a hard ball flying our way, which panicked my son.
GRRR!
Putting on my best Clint Eastwood Glare and owning my head cold growl, I said, "Do me a favor, Kid. Keep that ball far away from us. I mean, far, far away."
"OK," Kid smiled nervously.
It feels so good to be almost FU 50!

Carry a huge safety pin with you. A ball with a hole or two in it won't bounce very well.

I'm sorry you and your son have to put up with that.

18 Months????

I've ran off groups of "those" kids several times. I have a ways to go before "FU 50" but I'll be damned if a group of foul mouthed teens/pre-teens are going to destroy the little bit of peace I do get on occasion.

The last time, about 2 weeks ago, was a similar situation to yours. My wife and I decided to enjoy the unseasonably cooler weather by taking my 3yo son to the school I teach at and let him play on the playground. It was four kids, looked to be 6th grade or so, I'm assuming walked over from the nearby subdivision. I put up with it for around 10 minutes before I got too irritated and used my best authoritative voice to send them on their way. They started to give me a screw you attitude but elected to leave after I kept insisting they get to steppin'. There's three separate playgrounds on campus and my wife was just going to go to a different one away from the hellions but again, I'll be damned if they ruin my time, why should I leave when I'm not the one disturbing the peace?

Maybe for the sake of safety I should be more stand off-ish but heck, I'm 6'3" and 195 pounds, I think I could slam two or three 12 year olds if I really needed to

I think she did mean 18 years old, as I知 pretty sure her son has autism.

I知 always appalled by how much younger a lot of behaviors are starting. I would have been upset by 途etard being used.

Unfortunately, I do think it comes from lack of education. Twelve years old is still young and clearly those kids haven稚 been taught to appropriately interact with or exposed to children that are different from them.

I would have had no problem asking them to keep the ball away from us. The language, as long as there weren稚 young kids around, I wouldn稚 have addressed (unless it was my own child).

Gotcha beat!
I'm 210!
And I have Resting Bitch Face.

Yes! I was secretly hoping the ball would come back over to us, so that I could throw it over the fence or destroy it in some way.

My son just stayed blissfully calm.
So, I need to learn from him: my wise teacher.

From the community Facebook pages I follow, tweens cussing at playgrounds and fighting back to the adults who correct them is running rampant around here, too. I am so sorry you had to deal with this situation.
