Or anyone who knows anything about fashion at all .

I hate shopping so I decided to order a Stitch Fix box and see what happened. I asked for business casual clothes to wear in cooler weather. They have this new feature where they let you preview the box and ask for items to be switched out if you want.

Included in my preview was a pair of olive colored dress pants. I decided to keep those, but said in the note that I wasn't sure what to wear with them, so one of the items to be switched out should be something to match those.

My note from the stylist says she found the "perfect top" to go with the olive pants. The top is red. My immediate thought is red+ green= christmas and unless I'm trying to be cutesy for the holiday, I would never, ever put those colors together. The note also helpfully suggests that other colors that would go with those pants are orange, brown, pink, or beige. I guess beige, and maybe the pink, but I would never put orange and olive together and brown and olive= tree.

I was thinking of a black top when I saw the olive pants . Am I just old and boring? Do other people wear those colors together?? I fully admit I have no "eye" for any fashion stuff.

Also, general PSA if anyone does Stitchfix- click on the clothes in your preview and read the descriptions! I thought I picked a gray cardigan (to keep on my desk chair at work and wear any time I'm cold) and a black pair of pants. The cardigan was olive and the pants were navy .

Red seems peculiar. But burgundy works, as does black, white, beige, blue denim, black and white stripes, grey.

Try Googling “What to wear with olive green pants for women” and a ton of pictures show up.

Olive pants: I love olive pants. I would wear a black or white top, and think pale pink or pale salmon or navy could work. Personally, I don’t like matchy-matchy and some of the suggestions you’ve received smack of “outfit” to me. I’d go with black or white; if you think that’s too boring, spice it up with a fancy top (still solid black or white, but think texture) or jewelry or a scarf.

Clothes colors: I agree with you. I buy a lot of clothes online and have learned to read descriptions carefully.

Let us know what you do. Good luck.

The other colors I would wear with olive. I just bought a pair of booties that are brown with olive trim, and I definitely plan on wearing them wiith olive pants I have. I also wear orange and olive together because those colors say “fall” to me. I have seen pink and olive worn together, as well. I have no problem with black and olive, either, and a wine colored burgundy top also goes with olive nicely.

Wear what makes you happy.

I usually go with what color looks good with my skin type when a sweater is being considered. Red would look good with some people's skin complexion and I would not automatically think Christmas if I saw the combo in a Stitch Fix box.

I love olive! I think coral looks good with it. I do think red looks good, too, but if you feel it's Christmasy, then avoid. Black always looks good with it. And you could always go with white/cream/beige. And charcoal grey would look good, too. Basically, olive is a neutral color and goes with almost anything except other greens.

Depends on the shade of red. Some work. Some don’t. I use olive as a neutral.

I agree. To me Christmas green is a much brighter green than olive. Bright red or dark red go well with olive.

Green and red together, eh, not my fave.

If you want to be more business/serious, pair it with:

- black
- white/cream
- grey
- navy blue
- black and white vertical stripes
- maroon

If you want to dress more fun with a pop of color, then wear it with:

- coral/peach
- blue - brighter like a periwinkle shade
- maroon
- purple
- orange
- yellow
- some pattern that has olive in it
- a camoflauge-oatterned top

Red w/ olive.

I love red, but it can be tricky to wear, at least for me. I would not pair any shade of red with olive, but I have more of a neutral-tone mindset when it comes to clothes. Even if it were the holidays I don't know that I'd wear that combo.

I have a pair of linen blend pants in a brownish-olive that I've worn once a week since the spring. I've worn them with white, denim, black (probably my least favorite combo, it looks muddy), gray, navy, and even a Breton striped shirt when I went to the coast.

If you like the pants, awesome! They will go with a lot of things you probably have.

Thanks for all of the replies! I'm going to keep the pants and likely find a black top to go with as I was originally planning . That is the combo I see the young style-minded teachers at my school wearing. I decided that even if was considered acceptable, I'd feel silly leaving the house with the red shirt/olive pants combo. One thing that has helped me be less wasteful with clothes is thinking, "Would I be excited to wear this tomorrow?" If the answer is no, I don't keep it!

So I will be returning the red top and the olive cardigan- I am kicking myself for not clicking to see what color was listed for that one . Not neutral enough to keep at work and literally wear with anything.

The pants are actually super comfy, so I'm going to see if there are more colors I can order directly from the Stitchfix store.

I love the color olive. I look at this color as a neutral. I wear black, pink(light pink) chambray colored shirts, etc. My favorite print to wear with olive is cheetah or leopard print tops. I hope this helps.

My mother always told me that any color goes with green colors. Her reasoning....have you ever seen flowers look funny because their flower has shades of green leaves.
