I will be doing my student teaching soon and will be ready to start applying for positions. My husband and I had to file for bankruptcy last spring for legitimate reasons (as I could provide one). But something I had never given much thought about was the application process. We didn't have a choice regardless, but obviously all of the money and time I have put into this I am a bit worried. I live in Missouri, I am not sure if anyone here does. But if you do (or anywhere really) do you have to have your credit pulled? Or just a background check?

I'm pretty sure they have never credit checked me, so I don't think you need to worry about that. But if someone knows otherwise, then I'd love to know!

mostly districts are concerned about criminal background checks, and for some, social media postings. Many parents and older students will now search for their teacher's name on line, so districts tend to do so as well.

If you are asked about the bankruptcy, just give the most simple answer. So many middle class people have been brought down by medical expenses and/or the Great Recession that this is not a highly unusual occurrence.
