Review the unit goals

Then move the lessons around in the unit. I have bee teaching EDM for years and was totally flustered by it for a good four years. Then, I decided to think about the lesson progression and gave myselff the freedom to move lessons around and spend more time on a concept if needed. For instance, Unit 4 has you teaching partial sums in the last two lessons of the unit. Very silly, because it assesses them on it on the unit test (though on Part B). So, I decided to introduce the concept in the first lesson, then at the beginning of each lesson after that we would do a little more. By the end of the unit, the kids got it. It was not as frustrating for me or the students that way. So, take a look at the unit as a whole. Get a good understanding of the main objectives, then plan your lessons with the guide. I run a Math Workshop, so I move games and activities and journal pages around to fit my workshop and student needs.
I feel your frustration, but be patient. It is definitely an interesting math curriculum!
