Clip to ScrapBook #1

I am looking for my students to use their word work book as a dictionary/vocabulary notebook this year but I have never done that before. I want this resource to be a tool that they can use for spelling and to expand their vocabulary when they read and also for content areas.

I know some of you have done this. How has it worked for you? How do the kids store these tools? I am not eve sure what questions to ask because I don't have a clear vision in my head on what it could look like. Help!

Clip to ScrapBook #2

I bought The Beginning Writer's Wordbook for my kids (from Curriculum Associates). It costs about $2 per book, and the parents don't mind chipping in, once they see it. It is a small booklet that has a page for each letter of the alphabet; there is a page of commonly used words and then space for students to add their own. There are also pages for numbers, days/months, and so on. I love it, because when the kids ask how to spell a word, they have a permanent place to put it. They keep it in their writing folder all year, then take it with them when they leave.
