I have decided! I have 5 months until the end of my last school year. I don't plan to say anything at school yet so thanks for letting me share.

Hi
I am also leaving either June or October. I haven't said a word, but I am already slowly starting to empty my desk drawers. It feels good.

Retirement is wonderful. You are going to love this new period of your life. Sunday nights and especially enjoyable.

the water's fine!!

Some people take to retirement immediately, others of us find it a process with a learning curve. Whatever your experience, you'll find this to be a fine time of life.

Those of us on here have collectively had a huge array of experiences, lessons, and triumphs, so ask what questions come to mind. Share your transitions. Enjoy.

Our mantra when asked "what will you do when you retire":
Whatever I want.

It is certainly a big decision, but one I have never regretted. I will be retired 2 years in June. Loving life!

I agree about purging things. Since you are not announcing your plans yet, it might be harder to give things away, but you can certainly organize, start bringing home what your personal things are that you wish to keep, and/or throw out things you don't want, need or wish to gift.

Other than my grade level colleague and a close para pro, no one in my district knew I was retiring until 2 weeks before the school year ended. And it was my principal that I told. The rest of my colleagues found out when I posted my retirement on Facebook the day after school ended. It was the way I wanted to go out. I wanted absolutely no fuss. How and when you share your retirement should be what feels right to you. Welcome to the club!

Thanks for all the positive feedback! I feel I've made the right decision. Giving up all the "good stuff" I have collected, purchased and made will be challenging, but I can't bring home anything more than a few books.

I was where you are last year at this time!
I found a count-down calendar online, printed it, and crossed out each day (especially deep cross out marks on the days that admin brought up something crazy!) I started packing my stuff up and giving stuff away right about this time last year. You will love these last few months - you can teach the way you know is right and support the teacher friends you will leave behind. Have great last of the year/career!
