Technology lesson

I have to teach a technology lesson in November (not sure exactly when) but I'm not really sure what I want to do yet. Right now in ILA we are working on verbs, so by then we probably be working on another part of speech or doing a wrap up to that unit. In math right now we are working on growing pattern. I just don't know what would be the safe item, to work with. Any suggestions?

Do they need to use the tech or do you?
Depending on how far you in parts of speech, go to the lib/computer lab...
Have students use computers to create 'mad lib' stories. First, create one together on an overhead, smartboard, ELMO, enlarged screen, etc...show them that it is not long. It is a quick and funny story. They can even write the story, then choose words to put blanks for...Make sure you give them parameters...such as they must have ten blanks and can only use adjectives, verbs, etc...

For example: Mary was a special duck. She had purple hair and loved to play parcheesi....

Turns into: Mary was a __(adj.)___ __(n.)___. She had __(adj.)__ hair and __(v.)__ to __(v.)__ __(n.)__.

Have them work in pairs an then make an extra copy of the work they come up with. Have them switch with another group. Each group has to pick a word to fill in the blank.

1. You use computers...you may model on a smart board or overhead or enlarged screen...write a story together before they write their own.
2. Students have to know the parts of speech to create the mad lib and know the right plce to put the blank.
3. Students need to know the parts of speech to choose correct (if silly) words to put in the blanks.
4. They can use dictionaries (which counts as aa low level technology).

More Ideas

I like that idea. You could even find some age appropriate mad lib books to use as examples or extension activities!

You can have them make Part of Speech Superheroes. In groups, your students may choose or be assigned a part of speech. Have them create an original superhero to represent the part of speech. Then they may create a comic strip individually or as a group that shows the NOUNMAN saving the town from improper nouns...

Otherwise, Google it and see what you can find. Good luck!

technology project

I did a technology project a couple weeks ago in collaboration with the technology teacher at the school. My cooperating teacher was out the day I did it and when she came back in the next day she thought it was great.

This was for 2nd grade, not sure what grade you are. We read a non-fiction book about fall & the senses - Then brainstormed ways we use our senses in the fall, I wrote the ideas in columns on the board. Then they had to write at least 5 sentences about how they use their senses in the fall. We helped them proofread it, we made changes and then they took turns typing them on to a power point slide. I took a picture of each of them with my camera, uploaded them to the school computer and put their picture with their writing. Next I made a power point presentation. The technology teacher published it onto the school intranet, and it looked great. We printed 2 copies of their slide, one for the bulletin board, and one for their portfolio to show at parent teacher conference (we stapled their writing to the copy of their ppt slide.)

Maybe this will work for you - you don't have to use fall, we did it for fall and the senses because it met 2nd grade standards.

Those are all really helpful. My lesson actually got bumped up to next Thursday and I will be teaching a math lesson. I am going to be working with rounding and estimating as my focus. I have 2nd grade but my math students are advanced, so really, it is 3rd grade math... Any ideas you have would be great, throw them my way!!!

Thanks!

P.S. I am printing this out so all of your ideas can be stored for future use!!! You all are amazing!

I think the math lessons are the easiest to apply technology lessons to. Patterns would work with an interactive power point that would have students select the right item to finish the pattern. Does that help?
