Read Alouds

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I am already thinking about next year. In sixth grade Social Studies, we study geography and basic studies for the following:
United States & Canada
Latin America
Australia/New Zealand
Europe

So, my thought would be to have a read aloud to go with each section to explain some history of each section. For example, Europe - WWII U.S - Civil War

I would like to hear suggestions of books. Thanks

I'm sure lots of others will chime in with book suggestions, but I thought I'd mention Story of the World. It's a chronological, narrative-style world history set that's used a lot in homeschooling circles and classical education schools. It would be good for short read alouds (you could probably get through a chapter - which is a whole topic - in 10 min. or so), especially for times when you're moving quickly through history and don't have time to do a whole book.
