Another Great Thing About Retirement

I couldn't be happier not to be returning to school this fall. I can't imagine teaching with kids wearing masks, staying home certain days, keeping away from each other, and everything else. Plus there is all the uncertainty about procedures.

I have a friend who is still teaching, and I feel bad for her and others. She said getting used to online teaching was exhausting, and I'm sure things will be worse in the fall.

I canít even count the number of times that I have expressed how thankful I am not to have to teach under these uncertain circumstances. I have a retired friend who is/was happily working part time. Her position brings her into the schools. She is rethinking if she will continue that.

Me too! I still receive school emails since I just retired. The one this morning is all about re configuring (due to district budget cuts) A huge change in leadership. So I am so glad I retired when I did. I would not have returned due to all the Covid reasons and now these additional changes.

Me, too! I count my lucky stars every day! I feel so sorry for my friends who are still teaching.

Agreed! Amiga, too funny (but also sad). I was just talking to someone I used to teach with who is usually the calmest person around, and she is even stressing out big time. Looks like My old school district will offer in classroom teaching and online for those that don’t want to send their kids to school. I’m sure things could change between now and then though. Glad I’m not having to think about it. Feeling very fortunate to be retired.

ETA: added parentheses

I feel very blessed to be retired. I am also happy that DH and I went on a nice vacation last summer and a couple of quick weekend getaways last year.

Iím so thankful to be retired, too! Iíve been hearing about a lot of teacher friends who have made the decision to retire this year. Most of them would have stayed a few more years, but the whole Covid 19, online learning thing changed their minds. I donít blame them!

Yes, I completely agree. I just retired, not because of Covid19, and I am so glad I won't have to deal with all this. Online teaching was difficult, and many students didn't make the progress they should have. I do think kids need to be in school, but I think it's going to be stressful, and also still worry that even with all the precautions the adults will be infected.

I'm so grateful! The school dept has contacted me several times since I retired in December to conduct trainings, long term subbing, etc. No thank you!

It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that I won't be part of the kerfuffle that will play out returning back to school! Hybrid model, virtual model, protests, looting . . .what next?????

I feel like I am on a perpetual brain break. AAAAhhhh I savoring every minute of it.

Same here!
I was planning retirement for the next yr, but I seriously prayed for God to show me if this should be my last year way before Covid started.
I know I am not responsible for Covid ( lol), but it made it easier to know.
If someone gets sick, I'll do their online ( only) classes for them. Like a sub....
I am so thankful not to be dealing w/ the stress of not knowing what will be happening next yr.
I too have a good friend who has a lot on her plate preparing to teach.
