I don't see why that wouldn't work fine. What do you have the other students do during your reding groups?

I see no problem using just CAFE because it's a great tool to use.

Are your students doing centers? You could still do the daily 5: word work, work on writing, reading to self/someone, and listen to reading. They are just like any other center activities just more organized. Daily 5 teaches students how to be more independent and helps manage the classroom flow while you are working with your small groups. Have you considered doing a daily 3? Just a thought. Good luck with your school year!

I agree with the other posters- just CAFE should work out just fine. I think you'll find CAFE a powerful tool and great visual to help all levels of readers.
