Clip to ScrapBook #1

On the 50th anniversary of the moon landing how many of us remember where we were when we heard the words "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"?

I had recently graduated from high school and was driving to a friend's house when I heard it on the radio. Definitely a goosebump moment and one of the few positive "I remember where I was" moments of history.

If you haven't seen the movie "First Man" I highly recommend it!

I had gone out with friends to see Dr. Zhivago. Came home and watched it on TV. I remember it being pretty late, and my younger siblings had been allowed to stay up late to watch. I was 16, and my siblings were almost 14, almost 12, 11, and 6.

Just looked it up...almost 11 pm Eastern Time.

I was 13 and I was impressed only for a few minutes while watch the landing on TV. Then it was back to my Seventeen magazine. My dad who was glued to the TV could not believe I left the broadcast so quickly. What can I say? Later I realized the importance of the event. But at 13 my head was full of socializing with girlfriends, fashions, hair styles and the dream of a boyfriend. Space exploration was not toward the top of my list.

I was home for the summer between my sophomore and junior years of college. I remember going out with my brother looking up at the moon and saying to him, “There are men on the moon! How great is that!” The whole family had gathered around the tv to watch it. So amazing!!!

I watched with my whole family on our black and white TV.
I was 18.

TV's had antennas in those days but I lived in a border town so we easily got American TV signals from Buffalo.
I don't remember if the CBC had live coverage or not.

I watched it with my parents on a black and white TV. I was 5. I also remember drinking Tang while eating Space Food Sticks.

I remember exactly where we were. Camping at Cape Cod and many campers were gathered around a black and white tv watching it.

I was trying to remember why I wasn’t watching on tv and I think it’s because I’ve always hated watching live events that could go (as the newscasters always say) “horribly wrong”. The radio was a safer option

It was after evening church service for me. Summer before my senior year of high school. I was watching it on the black/white TV in my brother's room. We lived close to Houston.

My sister had gotten married the summer of '68 and a year later was living in Germany (husband in army) so I finished up my junior year in high school and flew over to spend the summer with them. We took a 3 week road trip from Germany to Spain and stopped every day to at least glance at the newspaper headlines. And there it was, while we were in Spain! So exciting.

I'll never forget it, because Chappaquiddick happened a day or two later. From sublime and surreal to horrifying and tragic in just two short days. Amazing.

I was 6 months pregnant with my first DD and by myself in our tiny, hot and stuffy apartment. I was holding the antenna for the small b&w tv because it had terrible reception.

I was in the lower level of a Prange Way store. We watched it on the bank of TVs that were there for sale. Sort of like 1956BD, I watched it and then on to more important things—shopping

I was in Syracuse...summer between my sophomore and junior years at SU.
DH (then fiancé) and I watched it with friends on their small TV. The next morning we left to drive downstate to my hometown for our wedding the following weekend. Always remember the dates for the launch, the landing, and the moon walk because they are so tightly linked to the time of our marriage.

I was babysitting for a family that only had a tv in their bedroom. I kept in on the whole time I was there and managed to catch it as it happened.

I was in college working as a tutor for a summer program. I remember being in the student dormitory lounge where we were all riveted to the TV as we watched the moon landing. It was an amazing event!
