High Frequency Words for Primary Grades

I teach second grade and my district doesn't have an official list of high frequency words (it's only for kindergarten and first) so I had gave each student a different list of words from Beth Newingham's site but it was too much to manage! How do you go about high frequency word instruction in your class and differentiate it for your low, on level, and above level students?

Look at the Dolch or Fry list. Pick 5 words a week-higher level students must write correctly in sentences, on average must spell correctly and lower level could only focus on 3 a week and be able to read and orally spell.

website. Check out superspeed reading. That's what my third grade team is going to try this year. I tried Beth Newingham methods last year and agree it was challenging to manage.

I'm trying to figure out how to do this too!! Here's a list of words recommended by the Teachers' College in NYC for K-2.

I want to do Words Their Way this year with my new second graders (I bought all of the books a few years ago when I taught 3rd) to differentiate it.

We use the Rebecca Sitton word list. It covers K and up. You can start at the beginning of the list for the low babies and move up as needed.
