Vacuum Recommendation

I need some vacuum cleaner recommendation, I know exciting stuff, right?!? My husband told me to let him know what I want and I said a Shark and he said the reviews that he's read on them aren't great. I don't know if I can swallow the price of a Dyson though. So I need recommendations, if you have a Shark what do you think of it? If you have a Dyson what do you think, especially for the price? If you have something else and love it, please tell me. We have a dog that is a lab/pit mix so she sheds, not as bad as our former pure bred lab though, but she does like to lay on the couch, so I definitely need something with good attachments & suction. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

We just bought a Shark a few months ago. So far I love it. It is not too heavy and it works great.

I love my Shark. It works well on carpet and hard floors. I just finished vacuuming and love emptying the dirt to see how much dirt it sucked up.

I would check out Consumer Reports magazine or online service. They not only objectively rate products according to features and prices but also tell about repair records. I bought my latest vacuum based on their ratings, and I have been very, very happy with it. It was second from top rated for hard flooring which is what I have, and it cost under $100. But that was three years ago, and things can change, so I would look at current ratings and models that suit your particular needs.

I had a Dyson for years. It started to not work well in the summer. I did not want to spend a lot on a Dyson. I bought the Shark power lift away. It is so much better than the Dyson. I loved it so much, I bought ds and dil one. I highly recommend it.

I have a Shark lift away and really like it. I also have a Miele upright and really like it. It's heavy but mine cleans well. I used Consumer Reports to select the Miele but used ratings on Amazon to select my Shark. I really like using Consumer Reports for any major purchase.

I also have a Miele and I love it. It's heavy so it probably wouldn't be a good choice if you're going to take it up and down stairs. It has great suction. I hate vacuums that don't work well!

I have a Dyson, but

Both DILs have Sharks and love them. I have used one of their Sharks and love it. Am thinking of getting one for the main floor, a smaller one, since I only have area rugs and plank vinyl floors. I can also use the smaller Shark on my stairs. The Dyson can stay upstairs. I do love it. I am on my second one in 20 or so years. But it is bulky. My second floor is mostly carpet, so I don't mind having two different vacuums.

I bought a Dyson after reading so many positive posts about them here. Big mistake. I do not recommend Dyson. My next vacuum will be a Shark, although I haven't decided which model.

The Shark is a wonderful vacuum cleaner. We've had ours for a couple years and are very happy with it.

We have 2Sharks and love them both. Our housekeeper loves our Shark, too, and has recommended it to her other clients. The reviews for the Shark were excellent when we bought ours.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. My gut feeling is telling me Shark as well and when I looked them up and started reading reviews, I was finding good reviews, so I sent my DH some review links, so he could read over them during his down time at work tonight.

My only hang up was I'm pretty sure I want to go with a Shark Rotator Liftaway, which they offer in a professional version and a pet version and the pet version is so much more expensive, and I'm not seeing that much of a difference between the two. Since my dog doesn't shed that much, I think we could get away with the less expensive professional version.

Do you have a Costco membership? I think I remember seeing that vacuum there, for a really good price.

We have a Dyson and I would not recommend it. I don't think it does that great of a job. We also have a Shatk Rocket that outdoes the Ftson IMO. If you have new carpet, check with the manufacturer about the warranty. We were to,d the warranty is void if you use a Dyson or Shark because of their power.

I do like my Dyson for bare floors because I can turn the brushes off.
