Humor at the hearing test

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I went through a full battery of audiology tests yesterday. (To try and determine the sudden severe loss of low decibel hearing in my left ear, but that's another story.)

One of the tests involved listening to a speaker say one word at a time, and repeating the word as you hear them. The words were simple (I remember mushroom, crush, cheek), but tested how I hear letter and blend sounds.

At the end of testing and interpreting the results, the intern working with the audiologist asked if I was a teacher. I told her that I had been but was retired. She said what clued her in to that was my precise manner in enunciating the words I said!

That's funny! Once a teacher, always a teacher!

Smiles!
I had a similar experience after I retired--when I was doing intake prior to having a endoscopy I had a bunch of papers to sign. When I finished the nurse asked me what grade I taught! Then she proceeded to tell me how her fourth grade teacher stressed handwriting and how she would never forget that teacher or her message!

Good story!

Whenever I've been in the hospital and asked about my job, the nurses have told me that they knew I was a teacher because I was kind and patient. Sounds like they had had some good teachers if they had good impressions of teachers.
