Hello. Any good ideas for teaching gallons, quarts, pints, and cups besides gallongbot? Thanks.

You don't need to buy a fancy once from TPT, just have the kids draw their own.

One big G. Inside the G, draw 4 Q's, then inside each Q draw 2 P's. Inside each P, draw 2 C's. Have the students compare. Which is more, 1 Q or 5 cups? Etc.

The Big G

The Big G is what I always used. I first saw it years and years ago with a Saxon math program.

Having the kids create their own is an excellent idea.

I also brought in the various-sized containers (empty and rinsed!). Used the same ones year after year. That really did made a difference - really helped those visual learners - especially with the pints-cups-quarts comparisons.

Here is an example from a pt member.

The visual does really assist the students in making it stick.

Race to a gallon

My students catch on quickly with a game called "Race to a Gallon", they love it. It is a partner game where they roll a dice, take that many cups, and can trade for pints and then quarts. The first one to get to a gallon wins. You can download it for free on Teachers pay teachers.
