Reading Inventory? Reading Log?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'd like to poll my second graders about their reading interests during the first week of school. Then I can suggest what books they might want to read for homework and independently. Anyone have a reading interest inventory for this age group? I found these really cute Book Buddy bags from Creative Teaching Press to help organize the materials.
I will add a reading log as well, any ideas on the reading log?

I just reference the bags you found # creative teaching press...here is the url if anyone is interested: http://www.creativeteaching.com/p-90...uddy-bags.aspx

For the last 16 years I have done monthly reading logs with my 4th graders. But, now I will be teaching 2nd grade, and like you, I am not sure what I will be doing. Some of my new colleagues send home a "book-in-a-bag" on Tues, Wed, and Thurs...and say that some days it is teachers-choice, and sometimes it is student-choice... looking forward to other responses on this post..hope we both get an idea to go with! Good luck!!

Here is a cute Garfield reading inventory that I like to use with students of this age. I will attach the link and then just scroll down to page 8 to find the survey.
