Hi everybody! My DS will be going to Basic Training at the Great Lakes Training Center next year. We don't have exact dates yet, but since he is shipping out in mid-February, I'm expecting that he will graduate in mid-April. DH and I plan to spend 2-3 nights in Chicago when he graduates. We would like to go to a baseball game (Cubs or Sox) and go to the Field Museum. Any other recommendations?

That I saw from early November. Put “Chicago” in the search and there are great suggestions. 😊

Congratulations to your son!
Great Lakes Training Center is about 34 miles north of Chicago. Are you staying near the base? Or staying in the city?
It will still be cold in April so bring warm clothes for those baseball games.

I recommend the Art Institute museum. It has a wonderful collection and is a lovely place to visit.

We did Hop-On-Hop-off bus, since it took us to all the major stuff downtown.

Architecture Boat Tour.

One tall building (we did John Hancock).

Field Museum.

The Bean.

Navy Pier Ferris Wheel.

Theater (great theater district).

We were just there 2 weeks ago visiting our son. So much to see! I recommend:
1. The mini bus tour (two hour tour with a maximum of 12 people, very interesting and entertaining)

2. Architectural Boat Tour (very good! It was freezing when I went, but still so interesting and our guide was fantastic)

3. Sears Tower or John Hancock building (both have observation decks)

4. Millennium Park (this is where the "Bean" is...very cool)

Go on Trip Advisor and search Chicago things to do. There is a ton. We had such a great time. Can't wait to go back and see more!

If you are a teacher from Illinois bring your school ID. You get into the museums for free!

We are going to Chicago this weekend. We are going to the Christmas show with dinner prior. We are also going to the Chicago theater to see Hamilton.

Thank you so much, everybody! I'm not sure if we will stay in Chicago or near the training center. Still lots of details to work out. I think we will be very busy either way!
