What are/did you put your money in? They are both pretty comparable aren't they? I'm not in the position to do both, though I wish I could.

Also- I didn't start teaching until I was 30 so to get 30 years in (for the maximum pension here) means I'll be about 64... how old were you when you retired?

I have my retirement fund in a 403B. I also have an old IRA, but not a Roth. I am probably retiring in June and will be 60 in July...YIKES!

I get a monthly pension check from the NYS retired teachers association and will for the rest of my life. I have made contributions to a 403 b monthly since I was 33. Because I was hired in Tier 1 of my state I didn't have to contribute to my retirement and I left when I turned 55, after teaching 33 years and NYS added 2 years for an incentive.

I have two years to go (if I make it!) I have old IRA's and a 403B. I didn't star the 403 until about 12 years ago and never put much in it. I wish I had started it earlier and had put more in it. It is just a little nest egg that I won't touch for many ears. I ope I canlive off my pension. I will be almost 58 when I retire. I am definitely doing next year; the following year is a "wait and see." I'm worn out.

I started a 403b 3 years ago after teaching about 10 years. I won't retire for another 15 or so.
