My Wife Trusts PT More Than Salesman!

We are in need of replacing our Whirlpool Cabrio washer with a new one. The serviceman suggested Speed Queen or Maytag as the most reliable brands. He said they have great parts and warranties and are built to last for years and years.

We have found a Speed Queen model that we like, but my wife will not purchase anything until we get feed back from the PT community!

So if you have an opinion on Speed Queen washers vs Maytag washers, please chime in! Thanks!

I did a ton of research on washing machines almost 2 years ago, bought a Speed Queen, and love it.

There was a thread over the summer (I think) about washers, and Speed Queen had lots of positive feedback.

Clearly your wife is one smart woman.

Awhile ago someone posted that her and her DH were arguing about something and he told her to go ask that “teacher forum she’s always on”. It cracked me up.

This also cracks me up. I really thought this was a Hifi post.

We bought a Speed Queen washer and dryer about 8 years ago, also on the recommendation of a serviceman. Works great, no complaints here. Bonus is that they are made in the USA.

about Speed Queens but I was going to recommend that you talk to a repairman you trust.

I bought what I liked (without talking to him) and now my repairman won't come out for it. He doesn't do LGs for whatever reason...

If you trust him, I would give his advice a lot of credit.

I love my Speed Queen! I think I've had them for around 13 years?

Just a side note: I grew up with a Whirlpool washer and bought one last year when I moved. OMG I HATE my Whirlpool washer.

The house we just bought came with a Maytag washer which I really like so far. Huge capacity, way better and bigger than the washer we had at our rental.

It also came with a GE dryer that ironically is identical to the one we left when we sold our house last year. Only difference is our previous was electric and current is the gas model. I liked the washer and dryer we sold with the house so I was happy to get “my” dryer back.

I have been researching too. Went to a local place that sold Maytag and Speed Queen. (I have a 17 yo Maytag now).

I knew I wanted top load.

The gentleman told me that the Speed Queens in the past couple years are NOT the Speed Queens we know and love. They changed a bunch of things- including the agitator workings- and not for the better. I understand corporate heads rolled.

I decided on a Maytag’s commercial residential washer. Am waiting for delivery.

I had a Maytag that I needed to replace after 20 years. The store I bought my new washer suggested the Speed Queen. I love my Speed Queen and have had no problems with it. My grandmom had a Speed Queen washer/dryer and she had no problems with them.

Maytags are now manufactured by Whirlpool.

I don't have either brand, but love that your wife looks to PT for recommendations

I agree with your wife - I always check here before buying anything major. I also come here for hotel recommendations and other suggestions when traveling. I have yet to be steered wrong.
