My DH has a plant that was given to him at his mothers funeral. It obviously has a lot of sentimental value and I get that. We’ve had it put out of reach from our cats because it’s toxic to them. Today he planted it in a big planter and put it on our deck. Now, our cats are indoor cats but we do let them on our deck every day and Id say they’re supervised at least 85% of time while they’re out there. But there are times when the phone rings, my mom needs help, we need a drink, etc…and we will go in and leave them unattended. When I said I thought it wasn’t a good idea to put it out here he got snippy and said…we’ll just watch them and train them to leave it alone. THEY ARE CATS one of them has never been trained to do anything because he’s hard headed & stubborn. I think he’s being very reckless. He loves these cats I don’t understand why he’s doing this. Sometimes it helps when I have proteacher backup! Help! What do u think?

My DD had a $3000. vet bill to save her beloved kitty after it ate some lilies a few years ago. Maybe that might convince your DH to keep the plant away from the cats.

Can you put them in hanging pots where the cats can’t reach?

I would absolutely put it out of reach from the cats. As I'm sure your DH knows when he's thinking rationally, cats aren't exactly "trainable." Cats do what they want!

I had two students today that gave me lovely bouquets for the last day of school. I know that some flowers aren't poisonous to cats, but to be safe I never bring flowers/plants into my house. I don't want to be wrong about what type it is or miss something. As much as I loved my bouquets I gave them away to other people who could take them home. It's just not worth the risk to me.

I was literally JUST reading an article about how deadly lillies and other plants, including THE POLLEN, can be to cats. Get it FAR, FAR away from them!!

My friend lost his beloved cat because it ate lilies. He had no idea they were toxic to cats. He is being reckless. I get that the plant is special, but the cats are irreplaceable. It is a risk I would not take.

Could you get a silk or fake plant just like it to protect the cats?
