We haven't had a regular Friday activity time in so long. I finally got to pull out the big builders I got this summer as well as the sensory table and light box. It was so fun to watch and listen to them play, create, and problem solve today. I wish we had the time to get this involved every day!

Big builders...tell me more! I have ancient No Ends that look similar, but not the same.

I think it looks awesome! Intermediate teachers yesterday at my school were talking about how the younger grades need more play and social time built in. I wish you would do it every week. Heck, every day!

I don't usually do a Friday fun thing, but I was exhausted yesterday from our first week back, and I had some who hadn't finished work. So I did one and held the kids who needed to do work back to do it. It was pretty darn successful. I may do it every week. Gave me some time to work with a student who needs some hand holding to get work done and I liked hearing the other kids working together on tasks. In 3rd though, many of my kids choose to get tech and play games. Next time I may not allow that. Or limit what tech they can play. I would prefer they did something else.

I love it! Your students are so fortunate to have you for a teacher.

I have to admit that I am a little jealous-your classroom is huge!

What kind of things do you use with your light box?

I don't know what they are called. I had seen them at Target for the past few years, and last summer they went on super clearance so I went to four Targets to collect them. They seem pretty sturdy, so I'm hoping they'll hold up for a while!

That's actually a shared space. I have a teeny tiny classroom, but then this space in the middle I share with the teacher next door. It actually used to be a hospital 70 or 80 years ago! I'm very fortunate to have it, and that I get along well with the teacher who shares it.

Just a mish-mash of stuff I've found - pretty much anything small and clear. Little plastic shot glasses, old overhead manipulatives, clear plastic beads, stuff like that. I also like to put a thin layer of sand and they can write and draw in it.
