Non-Christmas writing prompt?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'm looking for an engaging writing prompt to use in December that's not Christmas or holiday-related. Have you used anything lately that worked well? I'm in third, and we're still working on main idea/topic sentence and supporting details, so it doesn't have to be too complicated...

Why I'm unique

I liked one I saw recently that went (something like) "I'm unique because..." Kids could come up with some pretty oddball stuff, what fun, but they'd still have to support it with details.

Best Gift In The World

I use this around the holidays. It is about giving, but does not mention a specific holiday. The kids really enjoy the assignment. They also like listening to the essays and trying to guess what gift is being described by each classmate.

I do very little with holidays

except New Year's. Everyone celebrates the new year, so many of my activities are wishes for a new year, bright future, ways to make things better, dreams for better things for others.

How about...

Being stuck in a snow globe? They could start with sitting on the shelf at the store.

Depending on your winter weather (and grade level) ...getting stuck at school during a snow storm. Where will they sleep? What will they eat? What will they do?

Pretending to be a pair of ice skates or a snowball in a snowball fight?
