Schools closed on Tuesday?

I know some schools close on election day. Will your district be closed?

I never even knew this was a thing until a couple of years ago. The schools here have never been closed on election days.

My district closes because they use the schools as polling places. I've always liked having the day off!

We're out on Tuesday also for the same reason as the above posted stated. Lots of our schools are polling places. Can't have random adults wandering in and out while the kids are there!

for teachers, day off for kids (and a concern for parents). Many schools are polling places and someone got nervous about wandering adults and kids coming into contact.

It's business as usual in my district, and I'm booked all week. Now I feel kind of jealous of those who are off on Tuesday.

I've never had election day off, and I've worked in schools that were polling places before. My previous school had voters go in/out of the gym through an outside door rather than having them go through the school building to get there, so they weren't in contact with students. I'd love to have the day off!

I wish we had it off. We're a polling place, and I know I'm not the only one concerned about security.

Our school is a poling place and we still have school. It has never really been an issue, though I am more concerned this year, with all the craziness this elections has had.

We do make changes, though - the 3 classrooms closest to the polling area are moved for the day and no students are to be sent to the bathroom near the booths. We also try to block off the halls by putting tables across them. Of course, if someone really wanted to get through that wouldn't stop them, but it might slow them down. Also, all teacher are asked to keep their doors locked and closed.

The annoying thing is that we just had a teacher workday last week with no students - seems to me it would have been more logical to have school that day and move teacher workday to Tuesday. That way the students would be away from school on election.

Our schools have always been polling places and schools have ALWAYS been open. I remember it that way when I was a kid too!

I grew up on LI and schools were always closed. I teach in VA and our schools are always closed. Most of our schools are polling places and parking is a nightmare.

No school on Tuesday for us. Can't imagine school being open with voters going in and out!

I don't think my school district is off. I would have to double check, though. The schools used to be a polling place, but I don't know if they are or aren't anymore.

The school I teach at on Tuesdays is a polling place. This is my fourth year teaching there and the first that school actually won't be in session.

Last March during the primaries, it was a madhouse and much more crowded than it used to be. I think they felt that the final presidential election was going to be even worse.

The school usually has a week off for Thanksgiving with Monday and Tuesday of that week being parent/teacher conferences. They moved those this year to today and tomorrow to keep students out of the building and the insanity.

Thanksgiving break will only be Wednesday through Sunday there this year due to the change.

Our district is closed for the elections even though the middle and high schools are used as voting sites. Teachers have a PD day. I think it's risky business to have schools open when strangers are coming in to vote. All schools in my district have buzzers to allow entry after school has started. The doors are all locked. It's easy to gain access to the rest of the school from a gym or cafeteria.

The school I am covering tomorrow is a polling place. I am not sure how they are going to do hot lunch. I have kinders and they bring their lunches. The parking and security is a nightmare. I am not looking forward to it at all.
