Missing those who don't post anymore

I guess we all think about those whom we used to communicate with at Christmas. Since PT is a big part of my life, (bigger than it probably should be), I also think about people that I used to talk to here that I miss. I'm going to list a few that I miss "seeing". Feel free to add or duplicate.
  • BettySpeller
  • Janeypoo
  • Rubyslippers
  • Doodle (and Market Man)
  • REB

I know there are many others. Maybe some have changed names and we didn't know it. Who else can you think of?

So I remember REB and Doodle and Market Man. I remember checking just to see if there was ever an update.

I remember voting on some kind of weight loss thing for Reb.

ETA: reecespieces! I also remember her and her journey through cancer. Hope she is well!

I was lying in bed last night thinking that we haven't heard from Softball man lately either.

I spend way too much time on PT abs way too many of my sentences start with, "my teaching forum that I'm on..."

I was surprised that Txlady stopped posting. She used to post all the time. She was struggling with finding a teaching job, getting dates, and dealing with a family who treated her like an afterthought.

She had a job at a church school which she was non-renewed from after the first year and was looking into something outside of teaching like being a nanny.

There was another poster whone name I can't remember who was a sub and was segwaying into being a trainer and teacher of arobics type classes. Maybe she left because she got that going and quit subbing.

Rad sub is another one who stopped posting along with someone from northwest Indiana whose screen name began with an H. She moved up to some kind of administrative position.

Middlingaz hasn't posted since this summer. I wonder sometimes if people change their name on pt and start all over.

I often think of BettySpeller because of the traumatic last post. And I was going to say I miss Trishg1, too.

And Cleapatra from way back when. She was really nice.

But are they really?

I agree that perhaps they aren't really gone, or at least not all of them. Perhaps something happened in real life that caused them to become uncomfortable in their PT identities and they've chosen to be more quiet or less "real" here in a new ID. I'm on my third PT ID, but with this one I don't care if I'm 'outed'. I was both outed and made uncomfortable by another poster with ID #1, so I changed. Then I felt that I made myself uncomfortable with ID #2, so I changed again. Some days I feel like I'm never going to be a senior member again, but I'll get there eventually! I sincerely hope that some of the missed members are still amongst us.....

I've wondered how we'd know if 'something' happened to one of us.
Any ideas?

There was a poster with a special needs son who moved to Northern VA for a job and needed to pass her praxis. I wonder about her. I can't remember the name. Was it learnalways or is that someone else?

I, too, was thinking about BettySpeller the other day. I hope she is okay.

There was someone else who had a son with health issues, I believe. Shanty's wife I think was her name.

Hi! A PT regular alerted me to this thread. She PMed anonymouse but I thought I would drop in and say thank you so much for the call out! When I retired, I got involved in Teachers Pay Teachers (and also Facebook ), plus taking on more volunteer work. I also sub. So simply busy, busy. Have a terrific second semester, everyone!

if you're curious as to whether they're checking their old account, you can find an old post they posted on, click on their name and click "view member profile". It won't tell you if they've created a new user, but it will tell you the last date they've been on the account, even lurking.

For example, Betty hasn't been on since Aug, 2014, TXlady-April 2014. Doodle 730 hasn't been on since 2011. Trishg1 was just on this month.

Janeypoo 'broke the rules' on purpose so she'd be banned.

I think I remember grav def getting angry at someone and saying she wasn't posting anymore. Not sure, could be wrong.

Any of these could have other accounts and evidently don't want to be found. Or not. I check this site all the time, but rarely post. I think there is a point when everyone comes to that. Or they find a new site or new interests. It's just life .

They do come and go, and yep, its life, but I miss so many of our former posters! Like others here I too am concerned about Betty Speller. I have had her on my prayer list since that last worrisome post! I still hold out hope that maybe one day in the near future we will hear from her.

Who would find us?
Old 12-28-2015, 08:33 PM

Someone asked that on this thread. I became FB friends with several PT friends, so they would be able to get in touch with me if I went missing, or get a message to someone on FB. But if I didn't have those connections, I don't think anyone would know if I disappeared. I hope somebody would at least notice,

Hi MiddlinAZ, glad you checked in I remember most who have been mentioned here. I do wonder what makes people drop out, especially those who were such regular posters that we all remember them. I know some, like Trishg, get angry at what they see as lack of support but others just disappear for no apparent reason and in the middle of their "story"....... Doodle & BettySpeller are examples of that.

Sister Ann. She really was a Sister, a nun. Wrote some of the nicest posts. She meant a lot to me.

I'm on a health type of board. We found out months after the fact about the passing of one of the group.

You're going to think I'm goofy -- oh wait, you already know that. My family knows where I keep my passwords, and I've written a note in there two places I would want contacted if I couldn't post myself.

Been thinking of a lot of that kind of stuff lately for some reason.

I do wonder what happened, and hope things are okay.

Bettyspeller is definitely the most worrisome because of her last post. (What did she say, again?) And then to never hear from her again....it sure seems like something bad did happen. I know we all prayed and hoped things were okay with her.

grav_def is missed, too. I like her!

I remember Reb and the weight loss contest. And TXLady.

MiddlingAZ, glad to see you check in and that life is treating you well!

Does anyone remember- and this is a while back - there was one poster who seemed a bit unhinged. I believe had young twins. Worked for a Catholic school. From Connecticut, I think. Posts became increasingly erratic. I cannot recall her user name at all.

I am friends with quite a few PTers on FB, which I am also on a lot () so if something happened to me, it would get back to PT. Also, I would know if something happened to them.

I also have the email address of a PT buddy who is not on FB - in case she ever disappears! I will track her down! (You know who you are!)

It would be nice for all PTers to make sure someone here has their personal info just in case. (All PTers who would want us to know if something happened, that is). I remember when a teacher (and her husband) in Florida were murdered by their son, someone here said she could be one of us, and how would we ever know?

Knock wood. All of this just in case talk has me anxious!!
It would be nice if everyone

The last post from BettySpeller asked for prayers for a bad situation. There was nothing after that.

I am on another board unrelated to teaching and a member passed away and her son posted on the board that she had passed away and how much she enjoyed posting. I thought is was very thoughtful of him.

Wow, I remember most of the members mentioned previously. Isn't it funny how easily we become attached to folks we haven't met IRL?
