Lies they tell me

Clip to ScrapBook #1

During a recent conversation with a police officer relative, he mentioned the difficulties of having a job where everyone lies to you all day. He had to concede that I have him beat at that problem since I am a substitute teacher. Anyone want to create a list of lies we hear on a regular basis?

1. That's an old seating chart. This is where I sit now.

2. I forget my password. I can't log in to (this assessment/test/project).

3. The teacher lets us listen to music all the time.

Do you have any good ones?

1. We can sharpen pencils whenever we want.

2. We can leave the classroom without asking.

3. She lets us play on the iPads during SSR.

Mrs. X lets us chew gum/eat/drink/sit wherever we want.

I have to go to the bathroom. (Translation: I feel like taking a walk.)

Number one is quite common, but I think when i get this line, it is usually the truth.

I will trustingly tell the student that this is fine, and that I will simply update your teachers seating chart for her.

Most of time they stay where they are, and I make a notation in pencil on the chart and sometimes include the student's comment in my report.

If the student does well in their ostensible seat, I will usually not mention it in my report.

Although less common, the most annoying lie is when students pretend to be another student.
