Dear government: Stop stalling and kill public education already!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Florida does not care about education. Florida does not care about their children, the future citizens of this nation. Florida does not care about the educators and staff responsible for these children's learning.

The budget this state has given us is absolutely pathetic. Public school districts all across the state are having to cut, cut, cut to make due and yet charter schools got an increase in their budget to build more renovate, update, and build more charter schools while my district's schools are old, old, old and are in need of repair.

School Choice is like a punishment to the home schools of those children going to another school. Hopes of School is an unneeded pat on the back to charter schools. Now, private schools do not have to pay for their high-performing students' dual enrollment courses at colleges anymore, but that same courtesy will not be extended to, you know, public schools.

Not only that, but the government knows it will hurt higher education in the end!

More and more and more funding are being poured into the private sector of education with little return. Why are the needs of the few outweighing the needs of the majority? The majority of students are in public schools, so why are so much resources being poured into this small population of students in private schools and charter schools?

That's an easy answer.

The government wants to kill public education and they aren't even doing it sneakily anymore. It's straight in your face. It's a slap to your face as an educator, as a parent, as a citizen, as a taxpayer. Yet, we let it happen and it continues to happen.

Florida educators are being discouraged from taking to the streets and protesting. From rallying for better pay, better funding, better environment conditions. Is the government discouraging us? Well, yeah, of course, but also the unions. You know, the ones we pay our dues to? Yeah, them.

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/gradeb...ea-unions-say/

It's not a good idea because with a new bill just passed that can de-certify unions with low enrollment, the union doesn't want to step on any toes. They have warned us that there will be harsh consequences if we strike because it's against the law. One of the consequences is that the union will be punished.

Unions are supposed to have the guts to step on toes for the well-being of the teachers who are coughing up union dues and the ones who don't pay dues but benefit from union efforts regardless. I don't know how striking is illegal. It's apart of our freedom of speech.

If the government is going to kill public education, just do it already.

Make it quick and swift, so all educators has front row seats to watching private schools and charter schools get overcrowded, rising rates of discipline issues, lack of funding for basic supplies, etc.

If the government thinks that privatizing education is the solution then just do it already.

There is money to be made in the privatization of schools. Let that sink in a minute...
