Every time I go to school I find myself being extremely prickly and bitter about the positions being filled with outside people. My new mantra is above.

Same at my school. I applied for a different grade level within our district. I didn’t even get an interview. It went to someone outside our district. I’m feeling a little bitter over it.

It's extremely frustrating. I know how discouraging it is to apply for positions and not to get them or not to even get an interview. Heck, I've been trying to get into an elementary school near my house and they never even post positions. I have a friend who works there and I know there are the occasional openings but they somehow don't get posted. Or they do...but for like a day (or less) and then disappear.
I don't know if this is what frustrates you but I get frustrated by the unfairness and because I take it as a reflection on me.
It might be unfair. I know that my former principal preferred out of district candidates. Preferred may be underestimating it. She practically refused to even interview a candidate within the district. We have 60 elementary schools in our district. While the school wasn't "all that and a bag of chips," I refuse to believe that there were no internal candidates. And yet...multiple openings....I think she might have interviewed hundreds of candidates and two from our district. That was due to her own insecurities.
Don't stew over it if you can. It's unfortunate and frustrating but you can't let it take over your mood.

Thanks for the words of advice and commensuration. It helps to know it痴 not just me, but then it also p!sses me off for all of us.
