Well now I feel guilty

I hired this nice young couple to work in my yard.

It’s horrible out, the heat wave makes it feel like 104. I texted them yesterday and told them not to come today. I guess they didn’t get the message and they showed up. I tried sending them home but they got a ride and insisted on working.

I feel horrible. Gave them water and Gatorade and they’re only planning to work a few hours.

Sigh....

I worked grounds crew at my university in eastern New Mexico (which is really west Texas, lol). We started work at 4 am. It was a great schedule for a college kid. I got in a full day's work before class.

Maybe they could start earlier in future?

Probably not ideal but you did try to give them and out and now they're here. In their shoes, I'd like try to get some work done as long as I was there anyway!!

Similar with our neighbors— they had a new roof put on and those guys were wearing jeans and some even had long sleeved shirts. I felt really bad for them.

Don't feel bad; you offered for them to skip. Maybe they need the money despite the heat. Keep giving them water and Gatoraid (and maybe a bigger tip, if you can). It's hot, hot, hot here too. They're quite brave for doing ANYthing outside, much less mowing.
