I got a call today from a school that I applied at in May. I am so excited, I may puke

This will be my first interview for a teaching position...after filling out only 75 applications.

Panic...panic...

If anyone wants to share any advice, please do so.

There are lots of questions that can be asked. I would suggest googling "teacher interview tips" and lots of sites come up with sample questions.

Do you know anyone recently hired in the district? If you know someone and feel comfortable asking, they may be willing to give you some inside tips/hints that can help.

I hope it goes well!

Hi!

I can't help much since I only worked for a half year part time Title 1 Instructional Assistant job and my interview was rather short (about 5-10 minutes) so here is what they asked me:

1. What do you know about this position?
2. Tell us about yourself
3. Are you familiar with teaching with technology?
4. Do you know FUNdations? What do you think students struggle with most using FUNdations?
5. What would you do if let's say I was doing a (specific math lesson) for 5th graders?
6. Do you have any questions for us

Here's how I answered: (In short/less fancy version)
1. I know it has to do with providing extra support for students with academic needs.
2. I just graduated from (college) with a degree in Childhood Ed. I volunteer in the district as a tutor after school, and I am a substitute teacher here in (school district).
3. Yes - I have used an ELMO visual projector, a smart board, iPad, & promethan board
4. Yes I worked with it throughout my student teaching experience. I think students struggle most with differentiating between marking up the words because you have to know the vocabulary for each symbol - what is a breve, macron, chicken letter ect. and finding the syllable type - open, closed, v-e.
5. > I was so nervous at this point - I don't even remember what I said ! I think I tried to say I would check in with the teacher to see what type of help she needs that will assist her best in teaching the lesson.
6. I asked - what attributes are you looking for in an instructional assistant?

Despite me being embarrassingly nervous, I got it. Hope this helped :-)

Well, I wish I could say that I got the job, but I didn't. I almost cried when I got the call, but held back until I hung up the phone.

I was pulling for you. At least you can use this experience in the future for other interviews. I hope something else comes up for you, soon!

I hate getting told no for jobs I really want. It stinks. I cry, too.

The summer's not over yet... when I was hired waaaayyyy back when, my interview came only a few days before school started once the schools knew their enrollment. I can't tell you how many teachers I know who were hired just a day or two before school started.

you weren't hired for this job. On a positive side, you now have experience with interviewing. Don't give up, keep at it. Call and ask the principal what tips he/she could give you. What were your strongest/weakest areas. Most principals are willing to make suggestions. Hang in there

Bummer that you did not get the job but look at it like this...if it was your first interview for a teaching job you needed a practice run...next time you will nail it for sure.

I had one interview back in June and did not get it...hoping to have more soon. I was scared to death as I did not know what to prepare for in a teaching interview but I did like others suggested and googled and got some good tips.

Funny thing is I was a recruiter for the past 15 years and HR/Recruiting interivews never phased me...but this one was so different it was hard to prepare... but I look at my interview as my practice run and I won't be so nervous next time.

Sorry you didn't get the position. I had one interview as well and did not get a position. I think that the interview experience will definitely help with future interviews.
