So this is my first year in middle school (6th grade). Before that, I was elementary- second and third grade mostly. Today, I was teaching science, using sports to springboard into the force and motion unit. Every time someone used the word "ball" everyone giggled uncontrollably like, well, sixth grade boys.
longest 50 minutes of the day! I just rolled with it for today, but I guess I'm going to have to change the way we talk about... sporting spheres... in the classroom!

I taught the reasons for French exploration and settlement yesterday. If I had to say the word "beaver" one more time, I would have lost it! The trappers headed west in search of beaver almost did me in. I could hear the snickers. I didn't dare look up from the textbook. AND I had to read that line to FIVE classes. Love middle schoolers, but I have sunk to their level as far as humor.

I remember a quiet, mild mannered substitute coming to me at lunch one day with a very red face. One of the students had misread the word organism as orgasm. She said she didn't dare look up and she certainly didn't correct the student.

In middle school you sometimes have to just keep going!
