Teaching Citations

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I am at a new school this year and where I previously taught the students had more experience with Works Cited/Bibliography and citations. I will basically be teaching my 7th graders from scratch. I have a projector in the classroom and two working laptops (each of my classes has 24 students) and I can get one time in the computer lab for each group. Wondering if anyone has any grade "applying citations" lessons before the research paper or any other citations lessons you might be willing to share.

I'm a teacher librarian, and I spend a lot of time teaching this. Our elementary schools no longer have librarians, so this skill, which should be taught from 1st grade, is now taught for the first time in 6th . It's a hard skill to learn, because many students have been mis informed. For now-start by teaching parts of the book, and find some examples of books without the title on the cover (many kids want to get the title from the cover instead of the title page)

I'll be at work tomorrow ( ) and if you don't have access to a professional librarian at your school, I'll tidy up my lesson plans and share with you.

I would really appreciate it. We have a part time librarian who will pull books but we're a K-8 school with over 500 students, so she doesn't have a lot of time for other things.

Seeing this about a week after you posted, but maybe you still need something? I glanced at this and looks like it might be ok. You could certainly use a different text.
