Tell us about the best experience you ever had at a concert.

My top two are U2 at Madison Square Garden and Bruce Springsteen at the Meadowlands.

In the 1970's , several Springsteen concerts! One we just drove into town and were hanging around with no tickets. A young couple had 2 spare ones and just gave them to us for free! Turns out they were the best seats ever! Right up close in a relatively small theater. Super night!

*Joe Cocker with Mad Dogs & Englishmen at the Santa Monica Civic.

I attended several John Denver concerts but the best one was around 1994-95 (he died in 97) when it was just him singing while playing his guitar - no band or backup singers.

Huey Lewis - after the concert was over, he asked the audience if we minded if him and his band just jammed for a bit. He must of played for at least 45 extra minutes.

Rob Thomas - just saw him in June. Fantastic!

Best concert I never saw...the Beatles.

Bob Dylan...his final tour (hahahaha) back in (I think) 1973 in Ann Arbor.

Bruce Springsteen 1975 or so, also in Ann Arbor.

Ramblin Jack Elliot in Lansing somewhere around that time too...

Wish I had seen the Beatles...

Dh’s Tio Chucho got him into lots of great concerts in Greenwich Village in the late 60s and early 70s...

The MOST amazing concert I went to was in about 1985. My sister and I went to see Ella Fitzgerald. She was about 70. Her opening acts were also Jazz legends. First was Joe Pass (!) and then Oscar Peterson (!!) and then the two of them played together. OMG!! It was amazing. They left the stage and then Ella slipped out from between the curtains singing "you must remember this...", the crowd went wild for about a second, she put her hand out to shush us, we all subsided into silence and she continued singing effortlessly. It was breathtaking.

The second was in the early 90s to see Paul Simon. He was great. I loved the way he stepped back to let members of his band shine.

Also John Denver with just his guitar. His performance was very laid back and relaxing. Love the messages in his songs about things that really matter in life.

Every time I see Bonnie Raitt, I say it's the best show ever. I do recall her show with Jackson Browne and Bruce Hornsby joining her.

I also saw Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Jerry Lee Lewis around 1992 at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. They each did a set, then played together. Ended in Chuck leading a line of us all over the aisles, the lawn, everywhere, while Jerry Lee and Little Richard did soem dueling piano magic.

REM in Pittsburgh in 1987 or 88. Great set list!

Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper last summer in Louisville at the Yum Center. They sang together and separate, and the crowd was just so happy and fun! I also LOVE that we stayed at the Galt House bc the hotel has a skywalk straight to the venue. No waiting to drive out, no parking BS. My DH never went to concerts until he met me and it brings me so much JOY to share live music with him.

Best concert I never saw....In May of 1986, I got my dad and I tickets to see Benny Goodman that July. He died in June.

I don't love any one performer that much to even go to concerts. The only concert I went to was once for a Christian singer, but that's who my SO likes.

I enjoy musicals. Cats, The Lion King, and Cirque du Soliel KA are a few of my faves.

Tina Turner at Continental Airlines Arena. Lionel Ritchie was her opening act.

Elton John at Madison Square Garden. I was fortunate to see him twice, the Farewell Tour and an earlier one.

I would also have to count the Woodstock Music Festival, which is approaching its 50th anniversary this year. Because of the electrical storms the schedule of who we hoped to hear was messed up, but I did remember seeing Joe Cocker and Ten Years After.

Yo Yo Ma two years ago in a lovely moderate sized theater. He was mesmerizing!

Creedence Clearwater Revival many years ago when I was in college. I love their swamp rock sound. They were, and still are, my fav rock band.

Barry Manilow. My high school friend's sister, who was in college, got tickets for us back in the seventies. He was performing at a small college near us. He was a rising star then and we thought it was the coolest thing ever! I would love to see him again. On my bucket list. David Brenner opened for him and he was great too.

Most memorable:
Old 08-01-2019, 02:57 PM
  #31

Ozzy Osborne - I lost my hearing for at least 2 wks because we were so close to the stage/speakers
Boston- Back in the days before assigned seating...we made our way upfront too
America- You got a contact high just walking inside.
James Brown
Steppenwolf
Lynard Skynard - I think I found out later that it was only 1-2 original band members though
I'll probably remember a lot more when my head hits the pillow.
My most memorable 1 though was prob Fleetwood Mac. It was in the days before cell phones. We put our tickets in the glove compartment. My friend's brother dropped us off because he was going to a party somewhere. We had to enjoy the concert from the parking lot with others because we had forgotten to get our tickets out before he dropped us off. Scalpers were selling tickets, but 100 bucks back then was prob = to 1K now!

I don't think I could pick a best. It would be something in the 90s. Maybe John Mellancamp--more about the experience than the music. Worst is pretty simple, though. I took DD to see Ariana Grande. It's just not my thing. I am weirdly excited about seeing Shawn Mendes this weekend though

I think Bruno was my fave!

That cracked me up. My America concert experience was nothing like that I saw them a few years ago with our local orchestra. I sat calmly beside a mostly "mature" audience sipping their wine in khakis and pullover sweaters

It was still a really good concert.

My best concert experience so far has to be seeing Bruno Mars in Las Vegas! The venue had only 5,000 seats, so every spot was a great one. My DD and I danced and sang and fan-girled through the entire concert! If the tickets didn't cost an arm and a leg, I would definitely go see him again!

I went to several of these events during the 70's at Candlestick Park. Lots of big names on the same day all in one place - Fleetwood Mac, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Foghat, Beach Boys, Aerosmith, the list goes on. Those days of arena rock could not be beat!

It was awesome in itself...really, far beyond my expectations... but it was even better being there with her.
